Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
