Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 nor a loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
