The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
