The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
