The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
