The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
