The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
