The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
