The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
