(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
