The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
