(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
