(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
