The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
