(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
