The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
