[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
