The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
