The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
