Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
