Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
