Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
