The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
