The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation." 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and springs. 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 "And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?" 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 "And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
