Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
