Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
