The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
