The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
