Alshu'araa' 8 of 11
The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
