Thamud denied the messengers 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
