The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
