The people of Lot rejected the Messengers, branding them liars. 160 Recall, when their brother Lot said to them: "Have you no fear? 161 I am for you an honest Messenger. 162 so fear God and obey me. 163 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 Leaving the consorts your Lord has made for you? But you are a people who exceed the bounds." 166 Said they: "Indeed, If thou desist not, O Lot, thou wilt most certainly be expelled [from this township]!" 167 He said: "I am one of those who abhor your practice. 168 My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do." 169 So We saved him and his household, every one, 170 Except an old woman (his wife) among those who remained behind. 171 and then We utterly destroyed the others, 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 175
