And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 They will therefore say, “Will we get some respite?” 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 We never destroyed any habitation but that it had warners 208 For reminder, for We never were oppressors. 209 The satans did not bring down this (Clear Book), 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So do not call on any deity besides God, lest you incur His punishment. 213 And warn thy tribe of near kindred, 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Should I tell you to whom the satans come? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 The satans try to listen to the heavens but many of them are liars. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
