And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And We destroyed no township but it had its warners 208 For reminder, for We never were oppressors. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 it is not for them, nor are they able. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you. 215 And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do. 216 And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you arise 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
