Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware, 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it. 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), warn your closest relatives. 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you arise 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
