The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 Within a few years. With Allah is the Decision, in the past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice- 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
