The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 5 The promise of God! God fails not His promise, but most men do not know it. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. 10
