The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 they know but the outer surface of this world's life, whereas of the ultimate things they are utterly unaware. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [deniers of the truth] who lived before their time? Greater were they in power than they are; and they left a stronger impact on the earth, and built it up even better than these [are doing]; and to them [too] came their apostles with all evidence of the truth: and so, [when they rejected the truth and thereupon perished,] it was not God who wronged them, but it was they who had wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of Allah and they were wont to mock at them. 10
