Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 These are the verses of the sagacious Book, 2 for a guidance and a mercy to the good-doers 3 people who are steadfast in prayer, pay the religious tax, and have firm belief in the life to come. 4 Those are upon guidance from their Lord; those are the prosperers. 5 But among men there is many a one that prefers a mere play with words [to divine guidance,] so as to lead [those] without knowledge astray from the path of God, and to turn it to ridicule: for such there is shameful suffering in store. 6 When Our verses are recited to such a person, he arrogantly turns away, as though he had not heard them, or as though there was a deafness in his ears. So announce to him the tidings of a grievous chastisement. 7 Surely those who believe and do good deeds shall have Gardens of Bliss. 8 They will abide in them for ever. The promise of God is true; and He is all-mighty and all-wise. 9 He created the heavens without pillars that you see and cast on the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with you. Upon it He dispersed all manner of crawling thing, and He sent down water from the sky with which He caused to grow in it every generous kind. 10 This is the Creation of Allah. Now show me that which those (ye worship) beside Him have created. Nay, but the wrong-doers are in error manifest! 11
