We bestowed wisdom upon Luqman, (enjoining): “Give thanks to Allah.” Whoso gives thanks to Allah, does so to his own good. And whoso disbelieves (let him know that) Allah is All-Sufficient, Immensely Praiseworthy. 12 And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice." 13 And We have enjoined upon man concerning his parents - his mother beareth him in hardship upon hardship and his weaning is in two years: give thanks unto Me and unto thy parents; unto Me is the goal. 14 And if the twain strive with thee to make thee associate with Me that for which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. And bear them thou company in the world reputably, and follow thou the path of him who turneth penitently unto Me. Then unto Me is your return, and I shall declare unto you that which ye have been working. 15 (Lokman said:) 'My son, if it should be but the weight of one grain of mustardseed, and though it be on a rock, or in the heavens, or in the earth, Allah shall bring it. Surely, Allah is the Subtle, Aware. 16 "O my son! establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just, and forbid what is wrong: and bear with patient constancy whatever betide thee; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs. 17 And turn not away thy cheek from men nor walk on the earth stultingly, verily Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster. 18 Be moderate in your stride and lower your voice. Verily the most disgusting of all voices is the braying of the donkey.” 19
