The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat)
182 verses, revealed in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER these [messages] ranged in serried ranks, 1 and the drivers driving, 2 By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]. 3 Lo! thy Lord is surely One; 4 Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah). 5 We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the stars 6 And to guard against every rebellious devil. 7 The devils cannot hear those high above. They would be struck from all sides 8 Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement, 9 Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. 10 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him), “Are they a stronger creation, or are other things of our creation, (the angels, the heavens etc.)?” We have indeed created them from sticky clay. 11 Nay, thou marvellest; and they scoff 12 And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- 13 And seek to scoff when they behold a portent. 14 And say, "This is not but obvious magic. 15 "When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) verily be resurrected? 16 And also our forefathers? 17 Say thou: and verily ye; shall then be despicable. 18 Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! 19 And they will say: Ah! woe be unto us! this is the Day of Requital. 20 "(Yes,) this is the Day of Judgement you had called a lie." 21
