۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Certainly, that is how We deal with Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.). 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
