۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
