۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
