۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
