۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
