Al-Saaffaat 4 of 5
And We indeed did a great favour to Moosa and Haroon. 114 And We saved them and their people from the great distress; 115 And We supported them so it was they who overcame. 116 and We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear; 117 And guided them to the Right Path; 118 And We left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times: 119 Peace be on Moses and Aaron. 120 As such We recompense the gooddoers. 121 They are among Our faithful devotees. 122 So also was Elias among those sent (by Us). 123 When he said to his people: "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Do you call upon Baal and forsake the Best of the Creators? 125 "Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?" 126 But they denied him [Iliyas (Elias)], so they will certainly be brought forth (to the punishment), 127 Except the chosen slaves of Allah. 128 And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times; 129 Peace be upon Ilyas! 130 As such We recompense the gooddoers. 131 for he was truly one of Our believing servants! 132 And verily Lut was of the sent ones. 133 When We delivered him and his followers, all-- 134 except for an old woman who stayed behind, 135 Then We totally destroyed the others. 136 You pass by them in the morning 137 And at night. Then will you not use reason? 138

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
