And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 and we glorify God". 166 What though they would say, 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
