Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
