Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So you and your deities 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 and we glorify God". 166 And surely they used to say: 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
