AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who hallow Him, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
